Diversity and Inclusion in Sports Course delves into the significance of diversity and inclusion within the realm of sports and physical activity. The course equips physiotherapists with the necessary insights, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively navigate cultural complexities in sports settings and within physical activity environments. In addition, course deepens physiotherapists' competencies to promote equity and ethics in health care for athletes of all levels, ages and abilities.

The course provides you with a comprehensive overview of topics, such as cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports. It emphasises the understanding of differences between cultures to create a more inclusive environment in sports and within the area of physical activity. By understanding and respecting cultural differences, physiotherapists can provide personalised and ethical care that considers the athlete's cultural beliefs, practices, and values, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of their health management.

Course Introduction & Overview  "Inclusion and diversity in sports” is a multidimensional 5 ECTS course at EQF level 7 that delves into the significance of diversity and inclusion within the realm of sports. This course aims to equip physiotherapists with the necessary insights, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively navigate cultural complexities in sports settings and promote equity and ethics in health care provision for athletes of all ages and abilities.

 

The course provides a comprehensive overview of topics, such as cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports. It emphasises the importance of understanding the differences between cultures and how these differences can be used to create a more inclusive environment in sports.

 

The course is designed to enhance participants' understanding and appreciation of their own culture, values and world views, and of the diverse cultures within the sports industry; to equip individuals with the necessary skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with athletes and their families, coaches, staff and athlete support personnel from diverse cultural backgrounds; and to promote inclusivity and equality in sports, by embracing cultural diversity and respecting the values and traditions of all participants regardless of gender, race, sexuality, disability and socio-economic status. By understanding and respecting cultural differences, sports physiotherapists can provide personalised and ethical care that considers the athlete's cultural beliefs, practices, and values, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of their health management.

Learning Objectives After the completion of this course, students should be able to:

The course helps students to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural backgrounds. By learning about different customs, beliefs, and values, students can enhance their ability to provide inclusive and effective care and service to athletes from various cultural backgrounds, ultimately improving the overall patient/client outcomes.

Target Audience The course is designed for qualified physiotherapists, who work across the globe in sports or have a special interest in working in sports. It is available for full-time and part-time learners, allowing physiotherapists to choose a schedule that best fits their needs and commitment. It is necessary for candidates to have access to the Internet, a computer or a laptop, and a working knowledge of English language.

Teaching Methods You will be able to engage in interactive training modules, scenario-based simulations, and group discussions. The assessment tasks include case scenarios and quizzes to ensure that you understand the key concepts and have met the learning outcomes of the course.

Duration and Schedule This course consists of 6 modules, lasting for a semester with a flexible schedule to accommodate various time zones.
